Review:
I enjoyed the beginning of this book, when they wrote about the different breeds and their origins. I really liked learning about them, especially the information I didn’t know about Arabians. All of the facts about horses, breeds, colors, injuries, etc… was very informational and interesting to read about. The only thing that I didn’t particularly like about this book was information added by the author about how to care based on their experience or other sources experiences. It gave off the impression that any other way to care for your horse, besides what they wrote, is incorrect. There was some information in there about their experiences I felt was unnecessary, like them saying not to use tape to tie horses hair and not explaining the reasoning too. I feel like as long as your horse is happy and healthy, and you feel good too, the horse care part can be from what you learn, from multiple resources like friends, trainers, books, etc…, and choose to apply to your situation. Every equestrian is never going to know everything, and you are constantly learning with horses. As long as you don’t take everything in the book to be the only truth, it is a fairly good beginning to horse care, if you have the time, since it is quite long. All together, A Horse of Your Own is useful if you need any refreshers or are a beginner but should not be your only resource and should be taken with a grain of salt.
