December 11th, 2020-
Trail Rides in December of course come with Christmas clothes. For this trail ride, I first did some arena work to get us started. If she goes out with a lot of energy, the trail would be full of too much excitement for the both of us. She really did not want to go out past all of the things lining the trail, the beginning with the small slope, so I jumped off and walked her down and got back on in the wash. With Ashkar it is very much "1 step forward, 2 steps back". We walked out on the trail and instead of going to the first street, which is a point we usually use, we stopped about half way before we got there and turned back around. She was once again scared of the logs but got past it anyways. I am very proud of her progress with that spot specifically. Abigail went down the little hill into the wash first and then Ashkar followed along. I got off before we went up the little hill into the barn because I didn't want any accidents to occur. Although this trail didn't go exactly as planned, it is really great that she was able to get some more exposure.
December 20th, 2020-
I hand walked Ashkar on this trail and Abigail hand walked Rockstar too. Ashkar was having a few struggles with trails at this time so I decided to take her for a walk with Rockstar instead. Rockstar was still learning how to trail ride so having both of them with halters made the whole trip easier. Ashkar has an easier time when I hand walk her too because I can be more of a leader for her. Both of them did so well on this trail and taking a step back was beneficial for her. Walking on the trails is also very fun for all of us. We walked them to the bus stop and back. We also trotted them a bit on the one path to the bus stop which was exciting for them. For Ashkar, it is always helpful to give her a lot of experience and exposure.
December Trails-
During this month, we didn't go on a lot of trails and some of the very small ones were not photographed. There was a lot going on this month for all of us so we took a bit of a break from going on trails. We went on more in January and the in the later months. Ashkar had accumulated a lot of issues with going on trail so we also took a break because of this and I was able to talk with Jan more about how to handle the issues. It was important to not push Ashkar too much and instead worked at a good pace for her, we got more done this way. December is not the best month for going on trail for us either, but there are plenty more trails we took coming up.
