Trail Ride Training: Rockstar- Middle

Hand Walking-

Rockstar started going on trails by just me hand walking him. He also had to use a chain, which is shown in the photo, because he would get too excited and start to get a bit crazy. This was one of his biggest problems. Short trail rides were the best for him because it gave him just enough time to enjoy it while not pushing him too far. He also felt more comfortable when he was out with Ashkar. Although, when he went out in groups he would get protective over Ashkar and would get kind of defensive. He had a few different fears on the trail, the logs, etc..., but having him hand walking made it a lot easier to handle him. Trail riding is one of his favorite activities though.

Riding-

Once I felt like he was ready to ride out on trails, I took him out when Sarah would ride Ashkar. It was a little bit different then hand walking because he wasn't as aware that I was there with him, just on his back, and he spooked a lot more. The fears that he had on trails were intensified when I rode him. He would also get more antsy and want to trot. When he got like this, I jumped off of him and walked him back. When he did go out on trails, he did really well, and when he stayed calm, he did fantastic. Having Ashkar there helped keep him level headed and calm too. He didn't get out a lot, because of all of his excitement and his legs, but he made a lot of progress just like Ashkar in this project.
